Video & background music

I have talked briefly in the precedent post about Philippe Rey, a French composer. He created a background music for Delta lyrae 6 last week. I really love this music and think it fits perfectly to the universe of the game. So I decided to make a small video with a part of this music and some in game footage. Here it is !

The complete version of the music is here : Philippe Rey’s website

Inspiration’s music of Delta Lyrae 6

I have to stop working on Delta Lyrae 6 regularly for my jobs and other research. To help me coming back to this project, I am using a writing sound track. It means I have a playlist that I hear each time I come back to DL6, and only when I work on it.
I get this idea from the excellent book “The Ultimate Guide to Video Game Writing and Design of Flint Dill and John Zuur Platten. And it works fine !

You can hear it in youtube :

It is not very coherent maybe, but it represents well the different moments of the game and the different characters of Delta Lyrae 6 as I picture them.

This will NOT be the music of the game ! Firstly, because I don’t have the right to use it. Secondly, because I would prefer something more coherent and without lyrics.

It is probable that the real music of Delta Lyrae 6 will be composed by Philippe Rey : http://phreymusic.com/

Buildings in progress 2 : textures & materials

§ March 21st, 2010 § Filed under Progress of the project § Tagged , , , , § No Comments

After some optimization and UV unwrapping, I worked on the textures and materials of the house I modeled before. It looks ok to me, but I would like to know if you dislike it !

A small visit :

Next step : upgrade of the collision mesh and furnitures !

Buildings in progress

§ March 15th, 2010 § Filed under Progress of the project § Tagged , , , , , § No Comments

After a few advices and a lot of thinkings about buildings, I finally choose the “tent” style building. (See here : Buildings, buildings, it is the eighth drawing, in blue)

So I began modeling an example of this style : a single person dwelling :

Here are the preparatory drawings of this specific building :

The buildings are formed of a basic structure with flat walls, floor, roof and metal corners. The walls have windows. Then, outside of it, pillars are added at each corner. They are supposed to strengthen the building and to support the final protection, made of cloth. These clothes are like one way mirrors : they allow to see from inside to ouside, but not the opposite.

Some shader tests (there is still a lot of work to do on that part) :

DL6’s building had to be :
- simple to build
- futuristic
- modulable to adapt to differents utilisations (from dwellings to city hall and infirmary)
- comfortable
- resistant

I think with this style of buildings, it should be ok, but your opinion is as always much welcome !

Variations, just for fun…

I recently had the idea to print and then modify on paper some of the DL6’s screenshots. So today, I tried a drawn version, and a painted one.

Here is the result :

The original screenshot I used is here (I have lighten it for the printing) :
