The "Rotonde" of the Valois
The "Rotonde" of the Valois was a mausoleum commissioned by Catherine de Medici to the Italian architect Francesco Primaticcio. Today completely destroyed, it once adjoined the Basilica of Saint Denis.
This archaelogical reconstitution has been realized with the help of Ms. Sabine Frommel, art historian specialist of Primaticcio and Mr. Wyss, archaeologist of the UASD. (Unité Archéologique de Saint Denis)
The project has been done for the completion of my Master in Computer Arts, supported in October 2008 and obtained with honors. The dissertation of this project can be found at this address (in french) :
La Rotonde des Valois, reconstitution archéologique en 3D.
I have distributed this reconstition through different media :
- a short 3D animated film (on the left). It has been made with Maya for the modeling, the unwrapping, the cameras animations. I used Photoshop for the textures, Mental Ray for the rendering, After Effect for the post-production and Premiere for the film edition.
- a virtual tour that allows you to discover the "Rotonde" as it has been imaginated by Primaticcio as well as the hypothesis of Ms. Frommel about the "Rotonde"s' roof in an interactive way.
